KUALA LUMPUR, 16 FEBRUARY 2012 - Extension for BR1M appeal.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that the government is considering extending the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) appeal period, which ends on March 15.

He said, "Appeals will be entertained until March 15, but we are prepared to extend the period should there be more, so the aid reaches all eligible recipients."

He also stressed that BR1M is an effective form of assistance which is appreciated by the people, and eligible individuals whose applications have been rejected may appeal.

In another development, Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Donald Lim said people who have been awarded datukship can also apply for BR1M if they meet the requirement of monthly income not more than RM3,000.

He added that the RM500 assistance will be given to all eligible recipients regardless of their status and background.

China Press reported yesterday that a leader with datukship from a Chinese-dominant political party was also among the RM500 aid recipients.
