Ministry to extend joint patrols to cover school vicinity

The Star

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 JUNE 2012 - The Home Ministry will extend its joint patrol programme to all school compounds including international schools in the Klang Valley.

The programme was originally a collaboration between the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) to patrol residential areas to curb crime with its presence.

Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Rahim in a statement on June 7 said the joint patrols would make rounds at school premises during school peak hours.

He added that the initiative was an expansion to the omnipresence initiative under the GTP’s Reducing Crime NKRA.

In response to the secretary-general’s statement, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the safety and well-being of the people including students is a core responsibility of the police.
