KUALA LUMPUR, 9 JULY 2012 - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said the participation of 80,579 people in the 1AZAM Programme is proof of the effectiveness of this initiative as a strategic effort by the Government to eradicate poverty.
He said the programme, which was introduced in 2010 under the Low-Income Households NKRA, was aimed at the low-income group from all communities regardless of background.
Najib, who is also acting Women, Family and Community DevelopĀ-ment Minister, said the ministry, through the Social Welfare Department, had spent RM1.35bil to provide aid to 473,928 recipients nationwide.
He said as the minister responsible for this portfolio, he was committed to seeing social development move in tandem with the nation’s economic development.
